Youth is served! These “tortured demons” from the UK are proof that the youth of today look away from their phones long enough to take notes from their forefathers! Consisting of brothers Jacob (vocal and guitar) and Joe Parkinson (drums), joined by Billy Hourigan (Lead Guitar), and Sean Xavier (Bass and backing vocals), Tortured Souls are young lads (ages 17-22) with a knack for stirring pits into a frenzy with rage that only youth can serve!
Rise of The Lifeless blasts off with a Slayeresque (a made up word) riff that dimly shreds. Jacob joins the great and the track flies. I hear a great deal of In Flames and Unearth, and the references are warranted. No wonder these younglings were invited to Bloodstock Open Air Festival! Billy’s solo will knock you out of your chair!
Virtual Death has some killer gallop drums that feed another thrasher of a track. Intricate is the word here. The music community is fiddling their genitals to Taylor Swift. I’d love to see ole Swifty pull off this track. Not going to happen. Fast, furious, and gutteral perfection.
The last track I will highlight is Global Threat. Speed is the name of the game here. But like their forefathers in Testament, they warn of impending doom if humanity does not change. Structurally, the track is reminiscent of a faster Killswitch Engage. The gunfire breakdown at the end gave me a reason to live. There is the quote!
Disfavor is an epic track that will get huge European festivals chanting in unison. Great chorus! Smart writing.
Greatness is never duplicated, but making parts of the past your own today, is a mastery that Jacob, Joe, Billy and Professor X have excelled at! This slayer of a record is a must listen from start to finish. Get on Tortured Demon’s bandwagon while you can.
8 out if 10, it is hard to type….I can’t stop giving sign of the beast to my laptop!
