I have to say this before I write this review. I love Power Trip. Whenever I introduced Power Trip to friends, I said they are “modern Metallica at their Master of Puppets phase!”
What I meant was, the best was yet to come before Riley Gale’s (lead singer) death. They still had their Puppets and Justice albums to write before they bludgeoned the messes with their black album.
To say Riley’s death hit me hard is an understatement. Right there with Peter Steele. The difference is, Pete had written his masterpiece (Bloody kisses), Riley hadn’t yet…and I believe they were just getting started.
Is the live record worth your time? No fucking doubt! Power Trip was one of the 10 best live bands I have seen in my life and I have seen all the greats (Metallica, Black Sabbath, Slayer, Iron Maiden, Megedath, etc)! This live recording is killer snippet in time that catches Power Trip in their infancy….yet at their absolute power. Blake Ibanez is one of the best guitarists in metal today and this live record proves that point. Riley? He was an approachable god amongst his thrash metal fiends. That point is also proven here.
If you are new to Power Trip, this live record will blast the skin off your face. If you are a veteran of Power Trip, you will soak up the “swing of the….WOW!” You know what’s up!🤘🏻👏🏻🤘🏻👏🏻
9 out of 10: Sounds great in the car, headphones, and speakers. Only tune missing is Hornet’s Nest.
“Like the sword of Damocles
Hanging above your head
Our united forces
Thousands of singular voices”
Watch Power Trip play a living room. This is my favorite live clip of the band and is a worthly live recording in it's own right.
Listen to the full live record. You will be glad you did!
