Haunt - Golden Arm

Haunt - Golden Arm

Some people hear voices in their heads. For Trevor William Church, I believe life, books, movies, all implant songs in his head. Between his bands Haunt and Beastmaker, he puts albums out almost every 6 months. Each time the quality improves and the bands definition becomes clearer.
With Haunt, they are the metal Loverboy! I mean that with the utmost respect. I hear “Working For The Weekend” as an undertone to everything Haunt does. Think Rick Springfield as well. Haunt is an 80’s movie montage in the best way possible!
Hit and Run starts the record off with a guitar driven anthem! There are some shredding Steve Vai like lead parts that will make guitar enthusiasts choke their chicken! All the while Trevor is in complete control with a clear channel vocals that make me feel like the track could have appeared in Transformers The Movie from 1986.
Golden Arm has layers of intricate sounds. At first I thought it was a song about how Dave thought of his right arm as a teenager. In reality, Trevor is warning the listener to keep boundaries up, don’t let people take advantage. I cant help but wonder if the track is about the music biz. Either way, it rocks!
Piece by Piece is my favorite track on the record. It starts off with a Cure like intro, but gives way to some riffs and a metal Van Halen groove. Big sing along chorus and the track hits its stride with another Steve Vai like solo. Delicious.
The rest of the album takes you back to 1986, but with a modern flare. Haunt is a lovely tip of the cap to when radio drove rock n roll. The great part is that old rock sound is embedded with metal tropes. The songs Trevor hears in his daily life is to our benefit.

8 out of 10. Trevor has the touch! By the way, Trevor is the biggest driver of the band, that is why we focus on him. He is the Captain of the Haunt ship!
