Asinhell - Implii Hora

Asinhell - Implii Hora

Asinhell's debut album, Implii Hora, is a brutal collaboration that unleashes an unparalleled death metal experience. Michael Poulson (Volbeat), along with Marc Grewe (ex-Morgoth)and Morten Toft Hansen (Raunchy), creates an unrelenting collection of tracks that pay homage to Chuck Schuldiner (Death) and Entombed, while adding their own modern flair. The result is a sound that is heavy, unapologetic and fresh.

Fall of the Loyal Warrior is a standout track that embodies the crushing nature of the album. It starts off with an evil intro that gives way to an unrelenting riff that could have easily been from Death, but the modern touch that Marc and Morten bring to the table takes it to a whole new level. The track as a whole is pure madness, and the vocals sound like a demon being unleashed straight from the gates of hell. Just what you want from a Death Metal band.

Inner Sancticide takes a different approach with a chorus that's infectious and stays with you long after the song is over. The classic blast beats are relentless, and the rhythm section sets a furious pace that makes you wonder if these three are of human or pure demon. This song, in particular, is a fantastically crafted track that I keep coming back to repeatedly.

The entire album is a love letter to death metal fans and stands as a testament to the legacy of Chuck Schuldiner. The references to the legend are evident throughout (Entombed as well), but the album is much more than just an homage. Implii Hora is a complete record that deserves your attention. The production is excellent, and the songwriting is outstanding and it gives Poulson a chance to get back to his roots and scratch an itch that is beneficial for all of us.

Asinhell has delivered an album that stands among the greats in 2023. Death Metal is having a great year where the genera is getting a breath of fresh air with new bands and classic bands giving the genre a putrid new life. If you're a fan of death metal, you owe it to yourself to check out this record. It's brutal, unyielding, and pure sonic violence.

8 out of 10. Forget Volbeat! Just kidding! But let's hope we hear more from these three in the future.
